Preventative Care

What Is Preventive Care?

In simple terms, preventive care is a combination of several vet services applied to pets to help prevent future illnesses. Preventive care is an overview of your pet's health combined with treatments/services to prevent the potential for future illnesses.

In other words, preventive care is staying on top of the services that help keep pets free from the risk of disease.

What Does Preventive Care Include?

Preventive care begins with your pet getting a wellness exam from the vet to determine his or her current health and address any issues or note potential problems. Once the vet has a current medical record, including preventive care services, is the next step.

The list is long for the services necessary to maintain a pet's health. The services may be annually, bi-annually, monthly, or more, depending on your pet's health. Preventive care for canines includes:

●             Annual exams

●             Blood tests

●             Dental care

●             Deworming

●             Flea prevention/protection

●             Heartworm prevention

●             Microchipping

●             Nutritional evaluation

●             Spaying and neutering

●             Urinalysis

●             Vaccinations

●             Weight control

●             Wellness exams

What We Do

We'll start with a wellness check-up to establish current health and check for problematic areas that could lead to future medical issues. We will then update your pet's record with information about your pet's current level of health. Our vet will also want to know if you have observed any changes in your pet's behavior or if their eating habits have changed.

We will then check that your pet is current on preventative services, such as vaccinations, boosters, if your pet is on preventive treatment for fleas and ticks, if he is on Heartworm medicine, has the pet had FIV or Parvo testing, and is dental care up to date.
